“Great promise of a good restaurant is a fat owner.” ,and many such funny statements were a part of my last night’s dinner with the food celebs @Rocky and @Mayur from the food show ‘Highway on my Plate’.The HOMPers as they proudly call themselves(young enthusiast group of individuals who are devoted to food and fans of the show),do plenty of these get togethers,but it’s rare that Rocky and
Mayur visit them.It was pure chance that my cousin ,Srishti ,who is a part of this group was visiting us in Mumbai when the meet was planned.
And it was destiny that her elder brother cancelled and I was pulled in.Though a foodie myself,I was a bit reticent initially as I hardly knew the HOMPers.But that impression, was broken almost instantly by Rocky,who made us very comfortable.Infact,I have yet to meet a celebrity who is so down to earth and bindaas.
What followed was a long conversation on varied topics ;Are Indians a tolerant race?Which is the deadliest chilly in the world?’Sauji’,the hottest Indian dish to sharing his journey from a corporate employee to a business entrepreneur to a food show host.
What is interesting is the bond the two men share,they have been friends forever now(since 1976),but are quite the opposites,Mayur is vegetarian,almost teetotaller into fitness and Rocky ,a pure non vegetarian,needs his beer with his smoke kind of a guy.But the common passion they share is travelling and discovering these offbeat food destinations and showcasing them.
Ended with a tradition of a food quote ,which is a rhyming nonsensical limerick about their experience of the city or the restaurant.
This one’s by Mehul and Ameya ;
Indeed a wonderful rendezvous with the HOMPers!!
