Naya naya sa daur hai
Nayi nayi sadak
Kapil ke saath
ek Nayi Manzil dikhti hai
jab dikhi Ek Nayi League
Like you, I too am wondering, what is this ‘Ek Nayi League‘ that Kapil Dev is promising to us.? Indians are known to think with their hearts, so why would he insist on not playing with your heart?
These and many more questions are wandering my mind.
What am I excited about though?
This could mean a new format entering the game of cricket. While I enjoy the one day matches. I am not a huge IPL fan. For the simple reason that every season I have to change my loyalties. I end up being confused as whether I should be a loyal fan to a team or to a player. And when it comes to test matches, I don’t have the patience to follow up. So maybe Kapil Dev is coming up with an entirely new format which will appeal to people like me.
In India cricket has never been just a game, it has been a part of everyday life and reason for that is the nature of this game. We Indians connect with this holy game so intimately that when it is on it can put the whole country on halt. I remember cricket matches being a family bonding time when we were young. My dad would come back home early, my mom would finish cooking and would finish our studies and then we all would gather in the family room to watch cricket. Infact, while the match was on, the demands for snacks would increase and mom would only go in the drinks break to get some. On the days of India and Pakistan match, the whole house would just stop functioning and we would be glued to our television. We would even hire a projector at time for the whole society to watch the match together and the tension in the air was evident. Winning the match would mean huge celebrations and some would even break into a dance. The joy on the face of my family was so real. It is amazing how a game can actually affect you so much. At times I was not even allowed to get up from my seat, if by some stroke of bad luck India lost a wicket when I got up. We would attach superstition to cricket.
I would say cricket has been in our veins for generations now unlike any other sport.
And with Kapil Dev, the original cricket champ involved in #EkNayiManzil, I am super excited to see what is in store for us.
Chalo hum chale
Aage jaakar dekhte hai
Kya rakha hai is daur main
Ek Nayi Manzil ki taraf
Ab hamari nazar hai
